Lemme tell you what happened just now. I was in the kitchen cleaning up when a foul odor crossed my nostrils. I’m trying to figure out what it is. Can’t be my son Dash presenting me with poop… AGAIN cause he’s asleep… so what on Earth is so pungent?!?! My nose finally traces me to the corner of the table where I have my potatoes & onions out on display (mainly cause they take up too much space in the fridge). At this point, I KNOW what it is – more rotten potatoes!! Have you ever had to endure the scent of rotten potatoes?!?! If not, count yourself lucky – it will have all of your senses wishing you were rid of your sense of smell. Listen, I’m bout to grab a drink!!
I’m not a wasteful person, I was raised that way. If I purchase clothing that may have gotten too small for me – I eventually give them away. If I have fruit that may be getting overripe, I place them in the freezer for smoothies or some type of dessert. If I come across overripe tomatoes, I dice them up and freeze for sauce of some kind later on. Happen to have too much cooked food in the fridge – time to feed the fish by the dock. So about those pungent potatoes – it was overkill but I wondered if any of it could be salvageable. I’ve come to look at life in the same light…. I don’t want to waste – so is it salvageable?!?!
There may be jobs that you do, friendships that you have, relationships that you’re in that you know you need to throw out and then some of them that may be damaged but you have the urge to salvage. You know what… that’s OK!! Be mindful though, time is one of thee most precious gifts – once it’s given to someone or something, you cannot take it back so that’s not something worth wasting.
Bringing it to light for me, I can recall severing ties with childhood friends who I’ve decided in my adult life, some of those relationships have been worth salvaging. Luckily, one of those people gifted me with a journal after my mom passed and that has been one of the main sources of my growth. Something else happened, at some point, I got sick of work – yes, my job at Atlantis. So, when I no longer was employed by the beginning of March, I thought of it as me being that rotten fruit, diced and put in a freezer bag. Come to find out, I’m bout to salvage those fruits and make the BEST smoothie that I’ve ever had (this time I’m adding rum)!! You have to know what’s ready to be thrown out and what’s been placed in reserve waiting to be salvaged.
About the potatoes though, it helps to do your research before committing to saving something that doesn’t deem worth saving. Turns out (according to Google), pungent potatoes are not something that you should run the risk of salvaging… they rot from the inside out. By the time the stench hits, they already have some degree of poison in them. So, discard them as soon as you smell them!! Seek knowledge about what you feel may need to be salvaged before committing. You may decide to salvage some fruit but never have the urge to pick them back up so, don’t waste your time.
Take risks – be brave – be true to yourself – know what you want – have an idea of what effort it entails – above all have faith!!
Timely!
